Plans from Aboo To Go in Roundhay Road to serve food and soft drinks, as well as playing recorded music, until 1am every night, will go before Leeds City Council decision-makers next week.

Although authorities such as the council and police have not objected to the proposals, a local resident has called on the authority to reject the application, complaining about late night noise nuisance and litter in the area.

Aboo To Go’s application stated it would not serve alcohol, and would have staff training as well as a CCTV system.

Members of Leeds City Council’s licensing sub-committee will meet on Wednesday, September 23 to decide whether to grant the application.

The letter of objection from a nearby resident, whose name was not revealed, stated: “The noise persists until the early hours and is persistent on weekends. We have no option but to keep all our windows closed, but the noise still prevents sleep.

“Customers have parked on the verges in adjacent Upland Road, which has been churned up and heavily littered.”

It went on to claim that “large numbers” had been gathering outside the premises during lockdown with “no social distancing”.

Aboo To Go’s application stated: “We do not sell alcohol on the premises, therefore there will be no underage/public drinking [so] will not cause any violent or antisocial behaviour.

“Training and supervision of staff with regard to crime prevention measures appropriate to our premises, staff training provided as and when needed.

“Provision of effective CCTV in and around premises installed and in use. Our car park is well lit, and we have security gates which we open and closed when we trade for business.

“The area where the litter bins are also lit, we have lighting outside the main doors for security measures.”
