Police called to manage Leeds city centre protest as large demonstration takes place

Police were called to St Peter's Square in Leeds city centre this afternoon as a large demonstration took place.

Officers liaised with the protesters who gathered on the square at 1pm today (Saturday).

West Yorkshire Police said officers would only use enforcement to disband the group as a 'last resort'.

The protesters were pictured marching through the city centre later this afternoon.

A police spokesperson said: "West Yorkshire Police is aware of a planned protest in St Peter’s Square, Leeds.

"We have officers in attendance and will continue our 4Es approach of engaging, explaining and encouraging, with enforcement as a last resort."
