Highways chiefs at Leeds City Council are set to extend an existing 20mph zone along the full length of Cross Green Lane at Cross Green and other residential streets nearby.
They will also reduce the width of Cross Green Lane between its junctions with Pontefract Lane and Cavalier Approach to cut speed and reduce the number of HGV drivers flouting a ban on using the road.
The road narrowing scheme will also create off-street parking for residents.
A report to Leeds City Council’s director of environment and housing states the work will involve extending the 20mph zone and introducing speed humps along the remaining length of Cross Green Lane, from its junction with Knowsthorpe Crescent to its junction with Pontefract Lane.
The reports adds: “The highway improvement scheme will positively impact all users of the highway network.
“In particular, vulnerable road users such as those with disabilities, the elderly, and carers with prams and wheelchairs will be aided by the introduction of new and upgraded crossing facilities, with associated dropped kerbs and tactile paving.”
Leeds City Council is currently implementing 20mph zones in communities around schools.
A council spokeswoman said here are now around 160 20 mph zones which have been introduced around schools across Leeds.
The council has previously said it wants to create 20mph speed limits in the majority of minor residential roads across Leeds by 2020 in a programme set to cost a total of £6m.
