Leeds United have responded to President Donald Trump after a hilarious Twitter blunder.

It is believed his tweet was aimed at Pete Buttigieg, an American politician and former US Navy officer who served as mayor of South Bend, Indiana, and referred to Alfred E. Neuman - the fictitious mascot and cover boy of the American humor magazine Mad.

Instead, Mr Trump tagged the account of a "lover of music, boxing and bike racing" and a "lifelong Leeds United fan" who has 132 followers.

Leeds United have now responded to the President's tweet, which remains online.

The club said: "He thought the election was bad, then he went after an #LUFC fan".

Leeds United fans spotted the blunder this morning and hundreds have commented on the club's response.

One Twitter user asked Mr Trump: "Did you tag a random Leeds fan because you saw the ‘Leeds would’ve taken more’ memes and want them for your rallies?"
