Leeds for Europe to campaign in Leeds city centre this weekend
Members of 'Leeds for Europe' are to campaign in Leeds city centre on Saturday.
The protest group will resume public campaigning following the lockdown on July 18 when it 'welcomes high-profile anti-Brexit campaigner Peter Cook to the city centre'.
Business consultant and musician Mr Cook is touring England in an eye-catching yellow Mini emblazoned with anti-Brexit messages.
He made national headlines last year when Essex police stopped him on the M25 and insisted he remove the slogan "b-word to Brexit" from his Mini Cooper - initially while still on the motorway hard shoulder.
The group are expected to meet outside The Headrow outside The Henry Moore Institute at 11am.
The singer and guitarist is expected to perform Brexit themed songs for the crowd.
Richard Wilson, Chair of Leeds for Europe, said: "Peter has already been met with great enthusiasm by other pro-EU groups in the last few days and his reception here in West Yorkshire won't disappoint, I am sure.
"There is a lot to be angry about regarding our forthcoming departure from the EU - such as potential job losses, broken promises, needless animosity with our European neighbours, and the threat of us crashing out completely in December with no new arrangements agreed with our major trading partner.
"But groups like ours are passionate - not angry. We protest with a smile and Peter Cook's tour fits that ethos perfectly.
"Saturday's weather forecast looks good. Hopefully, we will see many potential recruits join our existing members, who will still be social distancing and wearing masks where appropriate."
Although they have been unable to meet face-to-face until recently, Leeds for Europe members have continued to plan and socialise via virtual get-togethers on the Zoom video platform in the last few months.
