Golf, fishing and reopened parks to return to Leeds by the end of the month

Roundhay Park and Temple Newsam Golf Course will reopen before the end of the month, Leeds City Council has confirmed.

It also confirmed that council car parks will reopen from tomorrow, while fishing and the use of bowling greens will also be allowed – but park playgrounds and outdoor gym equipment will remain off-limits.

It follows recent announcements from Prime Minister Boris Johnson, who is set to conditionally relax Covid-19 lockdown measures over the coming weeks.

From Wednesday, May 13, council park car parks will reopen but playgrounds in parks will remain closed and the gates locked with notices in place, however, outdoor gym equipment in parks is also still off-limits and toilet facilities will remain closed.

Multi-use games areas will reopen, while fishing and the use of bowling greens in parks will also be allowed.

From May 22, both Roundhay park and Temple Newsam golf courses will reopen, while park cafes and concessions will open for takeaway only on June 1.

A Leeds City Council spokeswoman said: “Although we are beginning to open up some of the facilities that have been closed in our parks and green spaces again, visitors must still strictly adhere to the social distancing guidance set out by government by remaining two metres away from anyone not in their household.

“We continue to follow the national guidance around managing the impact of coronavirus in Leeds and will ensure any changes we implement over the next days, weeks and months are done so as safely as possible.”
