Former Leeds shop and private school to become flats

A shop and private school building are set to be converted into flats after plans were agreed with the council.

Five homes will be created at Blake Grove, off Potternewton Lane in Chapel Allerton.

The council gave change-of-use planning permission for conversion of the building.

A planning officer’s report said one public objection was received, raising concerns over the impact on street parking.

But the benefit of providing new homes saw consent granted by Leeds City Council.

A planning officer’s report said: “It is not considered that the development and creation of five new housing units would result in any significant strain on the local transport, educational and health infrastructure.”

The report said only minimal alterations would be made to the appearance of the building, near Lidl supermarket.

It said: “The proposal will also have wider benefits for Leeds by contributing towards the existing housing supply.”

The scheme will see three one-bedroom and a pair of two-bed flats created at the site, along with bike and bin storage.
