Methley’s Spinners Bar wins new licence after crackdown on nuisance behaviour
A Leeds village sports bar has been granted a new premises licence after taking measures to clamp down on nuisance behaviour.
Spinners at Methley Cricket Club faced 16 objections to its application to Leeds City Council to serve drinks until 11pm.
Concerns were raised over noise, litter and customers parking on double yellow lines near the club on Little Church Lane.
The applicant, Tom Lister, told a licensing hearing people who caused trouble in the past were barred after he joined the venue in September.
He told councillors: “The atmosphere has changed, in my belief. I have seen a massive improvement in sales and people coming back in.”
The premises previously had a licence which lapsed in 2024, a council report said.
Joanne Waterhouse, who lives opposite, described problems with rodents and litter linked to the bar. She said: “It hasn’t been very nice to live there.
“He has barred some people but I still wouldn’t feel comfortable going in at the moment.”
Mr Lister said he was keen to work with people living nearby and stricter measures would be in place, including extra CCTV, litter picking and toilet checks.
He said: “It is zero tolerance. One mistake and you’re out.”
Objections were raised by the council and West Yorkshire Police but later withdrawn, the hearing was told.
The licensing report said: “Following discussions, the applicant has reached agreements with the agencies that include a reduction to the hours originally applied for and the acceptance of additional conditions.”
The licence will allow Spinners to serve between 10am and 11pm daily, and stage live music and sporting events inside.
Conditions were added requiring CCTV and signage to ensure customers driving to the venue used its car park instead of the street.
