Permission is sought for the conversion of Kingswood House, on Richardshaw Lane, in Stanningley, for residential use.

Developer Bauer Group is seeking approval from Leeds City Council for the scheme.

It would provide 21 one and two-bedroom apartments at the west Leeds site.

A design report by Logic Architecture said the building was no longer viable for office use.

It said: “The existing building remains in commercial office use.

“However, existing vacancies, forthcoming lease expiries and sustained marketing have demonstrated limited demand for its continued long-term occupation.”

The report said the proposed development would modernise the appearance of Kingswood House.

Occupants of the new flats would be close to public transport links and schools.

The report said: “The location benefits from numerous schools and nurseries, as well as a range of local services and convenient transport links, positioned centrally between Leeds and Bradford, making it well-suited to accommodate a growing community.”

The project would also help meet growing demand for new housing in the community, the report said.

It said: “The scheme will bring an under-utilised building back into beneficial use, contributing towards local housing needs whilst making efficient use of previously developed land.

“The scheme will secure the long-term future of Kingswood House, provide much-needed new homes and deliver a high-quality residential environment.”

A full planning application, which includes alterations to windows and doors, is out for consultation until September 18.
