Leeds Council puts children's centre up for auction with £290k guide price
A former council children’s centre could be bought for at least £290,000 after being put on the market.
Gipton South Children’s Centre looks set to be redeveloped after it is auctioned by Leeds City Council.
The site on Coldcotes Grove was deemed surplus to requirements by the authority.
Services based at the centre are set to be re-located to nearby buildings including the Dame Fanny Waterman Centre and Osmondthorpe Children’s Centre.
Pugh Auctions, which is inviting bids for the site, said the single-storey building offered almost 2,500 sq ft of space.
Its website said: “Subject to the necessary consents, the property may be suitable for a variety of alternative uses, including residential redevelopment, as well as continued community use.
“Nearby amenities include local shops/supermarkets, eateries, parks and open green space, and a nursery.”
The council decided to re-locate services as part of a children’s centres shake-up which would see 18 other sites close.
Gipton South was one of 31 centres the council decided to keep open, but the building itself was deemed too expensive to maintain.
The auction site said formal bids for the building would be invited in January.
It said: ” The area is well served by local bus routes, with wider transport links provided via the A64 and M62.
“Leeds city centre lies approximately three miles to the west, offering extensive retail, leisure, and transport options, including Leeds train station.”
