The proposal would change the use from a nightclub to offices

A planning application has been lodged with Wakefield Council to redevelop the disused city centre venue.

The former Vortex Bar and Nightclub on King Street in Wakefield could be set for a new lease of life, with plans submitted to transform the premises into a mix of office space and residential apartments.

The application, lodged with Wakefield Council, details proposals for 8B King Street to change its use from a nightclub.

The scheme includes the creation of nine one-bedroom apartments alongside dedicated office facilities.

The venue, which has a history of operating under a licence for live music, recorded music, dancing, and alcohol sales, has records dating back to 2005.

According to its Facebook page, the Vortex permanently closed down in May 2024.
