Councillors asked to give green light for £7m of transport improvements across Leeds

Leeds City Council has drawn up plans for seven different projects across the city and is seeking approval for them from senior councillors at a meeting place later this month.

As well as encouraging more use of public transport it is hoped that the measures will lead to better access to jobs and opportunities as well as driving economic growth and value for the City Region.

Consultation for the projects, in Bramley, Pudsey, Harehills, Lincoln Green, Cottingley, Middleton, Rothwell and Robin Hood, has already taken place over several months with councillors, residents, bus users, businesses and community members and, if the Executive Board agrees to the schemes, it is hoped work will start this summer and by finished by summer 2021.

At Bramley Interchange improvements will be made to the waiting areas, pedestrian walkways and travel information and at Compton Road in Harehills there will be extra bus stops, wider footpaths and better information at bus stops.

On the Cottingley Estate there will be new or upgraded shelters and real time information provision, as well as better loading opportunities for the local and small businesses in the centre of the estate.

The Lincoln Green project will make a safe and convenient walking and cycle route from Mabgate to St James Hospital, wider pavements, better street-lighting, improvements through the Cromwell’s and signalising at the Lincoln Green Road/Cherry Row junction to provide safer crossing.

In Pudsey there will be improvements to the walking and cycling facilities from the town centre to New Pudsey railway station through the widening and re-surfacing of some paths, improved pedestrian crossing points and clear signage to make wayfinding more straightforward;

The Middleton scheme proposes to improve various bus stops along Belle Isle Road, Ring Road and Middleton Park Avenue and enhance travel information and accessible public transport infrastructure, and in addition, create better loading/unloading and on street parking for local businesses and their customers by removing bus stops from parking areas.

In Rothwell there will be changes to the Greenway and five locations along the route and improvements along several definitive footpaths and bridleways running between Rothwell, Lofthouse, East Ardsley, Robin Hood, Thorpe, Middleton and Belle Isle, in order to improve the quality of the walking route and highlight opportunities for cyclists to use them.
