A public consultation is due to take place to discuss the future of the 12-acre site between Tile Lane and East Moor Lane in Adel, which contains a former school and listed buildings.

Advent Developments wants to convert the listed buildings, including the historic quadrangle and chapel, to provide 28 homes.

A further 44 properties would be positioned around the site “while respecting the existing trees”.

The scheme, claim the developers, also includes extensive landscaping and habitat improvements as well as improved footpath links and protection of the greenbelt.

In addition to the new housing, the plans incorporate a high quality 80-bed nursing home to help meet the significant under provision in the area.

Tim Reeve, managing director of Advent Developments, said: “The listed buildings have fallen into disuse and redevelopment of the site is long overdue.

“Our aim is to deliver a sensitive, sustainable, design-led regeneration of the derelict site and buildings to create high quality family homes, including affordable homes, as well as a much needed nursing home facility.

“We are launching this consultation to seek the views of the Adel community and we hope they will welcome this regeneration project.

“Advent has extensive experience of converting listed buildings, particularly former schools, and enjoys a strong reputation for delivering sustainable residential schemes and a commitment to collaborative working.”

The proposals have attracted support from local elected officials.

Coun Barry Anderson said: “The East Moor Lane site and buildings are a blight on the landscape. As Adel councillors, we have a responsibility to our constituents to lobby the council to ensure that this land is developed into a great place to live.

“We are pleased that specialist developer Advent has taken on this important project and is looking to retain the listed buildings and produce a well thought out and imaginative scheme.

“Advent has engaged with us early in the design process and we support these proposals which we hope receive the backing of the local community. We are looking forward to seeing this land turned into a sustainable and high quality development.”

A release put out by the developers claims that a planning application will be submitted to Leeds City Council later this year.
