Police stand-off with knife-wielding man in Leeds ends in arrest UPDATED

A man who was threatening his partner with a large knife in Leeds has been arrested following a stand-off with police.

Officers from West Yorkshire Police were called to the scene in Cross Flatts Terrace, Beeston, at around 4.30pm yesterday (Sept 17) before police negotiators intervened.

After discussions with police the man released the woman unhurt, but she was still checked over by paramedics.

Officers entered the Beeston house to work with the man in a bid to “encourage him to safety” during the stand-off that lasted several hours.

A force spokesman said that specially trained officers with protective equipment have entered the property and were able to restrain the man, who was brought out without injury.

He was arrested on suspicion of assault and enquiries remain ongoing.
