Police issue warning over swimming in open water after death of teenager in Leeds

The police have issued a reminder of the dangers of swimming in open water after the death of a 17-year-old boy in Leeds.

West Yorkshire Police tweeted a link to an article on the Yorkshire Water website on Thursday, which outlines the dangers of swimming in reservoirs.

The message on the tweet said: "We’d like to remind the public of the dangers of swimming in lakes, reservoirs and canals during the hot weather –"

The warning comes a day after the body of a 17-year-old boy was recovered from the River Aire near the Cardigan Fields retail park near Kirkstall Road at around 1.30am on Wednesday, June 27.

The police helicopter, officers, paramedics and firefighters were all called to the scene.
