Police continue to investigate triple Leeds tragedy

INVESTIGATIONS were today continuing to try to establish the cause of the deaths of three people whose bodies were found at a house in Leeds.

The grim discovery was made after a concerned relative called police to the property on East Park Street, East End Park, shortly before midday on Sunday. Two of the victims were women in their 20s or 30s while the third was a young man aged around 18.

A small fire was thought to have taken place at the house and officers were understood to be working on the theory that the deaths may have been due to the effects of smoke inhalation. A white police tent remained in position yesterday at the front of the red brick end-of-terrace property. A police officer was also on duty at the rear of the house, which backs onto East Park Grove. Residents in the area have spoken of their shock at the tragedy that unfolded on their doorsteps over the weekend.

Neighbour Sylvia Atkinson, 56, knew one of the women to say hello to. “She was a nice young girl, very polite,” she said. “All I have heard is that there was a small fire in the house. To hear that three people have died ... you can’t imagine it.”

Another neighbour said: “I don’t know what has happened here. All I know is there has been a tragedy.”

Leeds Central MP Hilary Benn tweeted: “So sad to hear of the death of three people in East End Park. Thinking of their families.” Leeds City Council chief executive Tom Riordan also took to Twitter, saying: “Sad news about the deaths in East End Park Leeds – thoughts with families.”

Police have said they would like to hear from anyone who saw the occupants of the house on Friday.
