Police close Short Street after 'smoking car' seen in Q-Park Albion Street

A car with smoke coming out of it sparked a large emergency service response this afternoon (Wednesday).

Firefighters were called to the Q-Park Albion Street car park, off Butts Court and Short Street, just before 1pm.

Traffic has been diverted in the busy part of Leeds City Centre.

A car had been seen with smoke coming out of it, but there was no visible flame, according to a West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service spokeswoman.

Two fire engines from Leeds along with one from Killingbeck were called to deal with the incident.

The aerial appliance from Bradford Fire Station was also called to the scene.

First Bus West Yorkshire tweeted just before 3pm: "Due to a police incident at Woodhouse Lane / Albion Street we are currently experiencing delays to services.

"We are sorry for any inconvenience caused."
