Police called to Armley Library after 'suspicious' man cornered by angry residents

Police had to intervene after group of people cornered a man accused of behaving suspiciously in a churchyard.

Police received a call reporting the man's behaviour in the grounds of St Bartholomew's Church in Armley at 11.30am on Tuesday.

An officer attended and spoke to the man who gave an acceptable explanation for his conduct.

The original caller declined to give their details or any details of the incident and the man was allowed to leave.

At 12:30pm, police were called to Armley Library where concerns had been raised for the safety of a man who had been challenged by a group of people.

Officers attended and found the man to be the same person involved in the earlier incident. He was relocated to a place of safety.

Police were satisfied that no offences were committed.
