British Transport Police’s PC Wayne Mitchell said: “The behaviour of a group of men on board this train was completely unacceptable and must have been extremely distressing and unpleasant for other passengers on the service.

“We are committed to stamping out football-related anti-social behaviour on the rail network and are doing all we can to identify the individuals concerned and bring them to justice.

“If you were on the train and witnessed the incident, please come forward and contact us as you may have information which could help us to do this.”

Witnesses are asked to call 0800 405040, citing log reference 227 of February 12.
