Photo gallery: £1.2m cannabis farm discovered by police in Leeds

Officers were called to Carlisle Road near the city centre after an anonymous call reporting the strong smell of cannabis.

Police found 856 cannabis plants and believe that tyres were being burnt nearby to try and mask the smell.

Two Vietnamese men aged 32 and 35, and a 52-year-old man from Bradford were arrested on suspicion of production of Class B drugs.

PC Chad Stevens said: “I have never seen a cannabis farm of such a large scale.

“It’s amazing how they got all of this equipment inside without arousing suspicion.”

A West Yorkshire Police spokesman said they estimate the plants to be worth between £749,000 and £1.2m.

Inspector Andy Berriman, Leeds City Commander, said: “This was a significant discovery by my officers and undoubtedly it has disrupted organised criminal activity in Leeds and the surrounding areas.

“I want to thank the member of the public who reported their concerns and would encourage anyone else who has similar suspicions to report it to the police on 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
