Photo essay: Feathered beauties of Leeds's Lotherton Hall garden

These striking photos of beautiful birdlife were taken in the Bird Garden at Lotherton Hall, Aberford.

Other stunning shots include the long-neckd grey crowned crane, bottom right, and “Percy” the luscious green turaco sitting on bird-keeper Harriet Schalow’s finger, bottom left.

And a hungry emu gets fed by Toby Robbins, centre left.

The keepers at Lotherton Hall look after more than 480 different birds from more than 130 different species as the Bird Garden has gone from having a small collection of waterfowl, poultry and ducks in 1980, to housing one of the UK’s best collections of rare and endangered wildlife. It is open to visitors every day from 10am - 4pm.
