Yorkshire street goes viral on social media after residents post alert cards in windows during coronavirus outbreak
A street in Yorkshire has gone viral on social media - after residents posted red and green alert cards in their windows during the coronavirus outbreak.
On the street in Ripon, North Yorkshire, residents have added green paper to each window.
However, the paper can be turned to red if the resident requires assistance, shopping, medication or transport.
The initiative originated by a local resident, who passed out green card and letters detailing what to do.
The idea has been heralded as 'amazing' by many social media users, with other streets vowing to copy the initiative.
Beth Crompton took the photograph of the windows.
She said in a tweet: "The whole street has added green paper to their windows.
"If it changes to red it’s means they require assistance, shopping, medication or transport.
"This is amazing!"
Users were quick to herald the success of the idea.
One said: "I can't wait to let my neighbours know to do the same.
"Everyone should come together at times like this."
Another added: "What a simple but brilliant idea.
"Everybody needs help.
"Hopefully more will do the same."
