“We’ve collated some of our best tips that should help our patients begin the year in the healthiest way possible.”

Here's your top five tips:

* Eat smart. Minor diet tweaks and staying hydrated can have a substantial impact on your mood and energy levels. It is essential that diets are balanced to maintain good health and ensure sufficient intake of nutrients, including a variety of vegetables and fruit.

* Keep moving. Movement is a fantastic nourishment for your body, helping to alleviate stress and making you feel great inside and out. Reducing sitting time and aiming for just 30 minutes of daily exercise is beneficial, there are lots of alternate ways to get active, including a walk in the countryside or biking to work.

* Better sleep. It is vital to understand how a good night’s sleep and routine can benefit your health – these include physical and mental recovery, prolonged life expectancy and healthy weight loss. It’s recommended to turn off your phone at least one hour before sleeping as checking your phone stimulates the brain so you are more active and awake, whilst the blue light phones handsets emit can contribute to poor sleep.

* Have alcohol free days. Alcohol-free isn’t just about Dry January! Alcohol consumption can have a severe adverse effect on health and wellbeing, as well as day to day psychological alertness. Try going without alcohol for a few days a week and see if this helps to form a habit, just two days off from alcohol a week can reduce intake by a third.

* Mindfulness. Take the opportunity each day to practice and de-clutter from the daily stresses to improve mental wellbeing. Just five minutes can help you relax and rebalance.
