Storm Bella prompts Leeds River Aire flood alert

'Flooding is possible - be prepared' for the middle River Aire catchment is the message from the flood information service after Bella brought heavy rain and strong winds overnight.

A statement issued on the Gov.uk website reads: "After heavy rainfall overnight the River Aire is rising downstream of Leeds. It is expected to peak this afternoon although at this stage we do not expect flooding of properties and no further significant rainfall is expected today, 27/12/2020. We will continue to monitor the situation and will update this message by 16:15 on 27/12/2020, or if the situation changes. Please plan driving routes to avoid low-lying roads near rivers, which may be flooded."
