Search for couple after Yorkshire Dales proposal captured on camera

Michael Almond inadvertently captured this couple's proposal while taking a photograph in the Yorkshire Dales. He is now trying to find them so he can give them the photograph.

A family is searching for a happy couple after inadvertently capturing their proposal while taking a photograph in the Yorkshire Dales.

Mike Almond, 27, a civil servant from Rossendale, had walked to the summit of Pen-y-ghent with his wife Danielle, 28, on Sunday, June 14 to scatter his grandpa Brian's ashes.

Brian Almond, who was known locally as 'Tinker', passed away in September 2019.

He loved walking around the Settle and Helwith Bridge area and the 'Tinker's Terrace' at the Helwith Bridge Inn is named after him.

After scattering his grandpa's ashes, Mike took a photograph from the summit to capture the special occasion.

It wasn't until the couple, who are parents to one-year-old Edward, were home that they realised they had captured a proposal.

Mike said: "We had gone to the summit to scatter my grandpa's ashes as it was a place he loved and had been visiting for 50 years.

"I took a few photographs and a panoramic picture of the view.

Michael and Danielle Almond realised that they had inadvertently captured the proposal when they zoomed in on the photograph when they got home.

"When we got home, we zoomed in and we noticed the couple on the picture.

"It was such a happy moment and a huge coincidence as we were celebrating our second wedding anniversary that day too."

Mike has since shared the photograph on social media in an attempt to try and tack down the happy couple.

The father-of-one said: "I am hoping that we can maybe find the couple so that they have a memento of the special moment, especially given the current Covid-19 situation as they wouldn’t have been able to ask anyone to capture the moment.

"I’d like to wish them every happiness for the future."
