Roundhay Rotary Club gives cash boost to Leeds charities and St Gemma’s, Wheatfields and Martin House hospices

Roundhay Rotary Club has been giving financial support to a number of Leeds charities that help homeless people, vulnerable children and terminally ill patients,

The club - which has been holding video meetings to ensure they can keep up their community work - has handed out funds to various charities including Simon on the Streets and Cash for Kids.

On Monday, members also agreed to release further funds to support three hospices: St Gemma’s, Wheatfield’s and Martin House Children’s Hospice, which are all desperately short of funds.

President Kath Short said: “Many of the members have indicated that they will contribute the cost of the meal they would normally purchase at one of our meetings to the charity account so that further assistance can be given to charities helping those most in need.”

One member, who recently recovered from COVID-19, has specialist knowledge in neuro physiotherapy and has offering to provide free physiotherapy advice during the lock down period, by either telephone or email to people suffering from MS, Parkinson’s and other neuro problems.

Other members are involved with the distribution of school meal packs to families in the area.

Rotary members are used to finding solutions to problems and are encouraged by the surge in volunteers throughout the country who are helping during these difficult times and would welcome help and volunteers in Roundhay.
