Rob Burrow: Leeds Rhinos to host seven mile Roundhay Park run in memory of legend

Leeds Rhinos are to host a seven mile charity run in honour of the late Rob Burrow.

Burrow died on Sunday (June 2) following a four-and-a-half-year battle with motor neurone disease (MND).

Tributes have poured in from across the country since the star’s death, including from his close friend Kevin Sinfield, who described it as “the day that I hoped would never come.”

Now the Leeds Rhinos Foundation are inviting everyone who has been touched by his story to participate in the Strava Rhino route run on Friday, June 7 at 7pm.

The course was put together by local avid runner, John Mcloughlin, to raise awareness of Motor Neurone Disease and funds for research, care and potential treatments for the MND Association and Leeds Hospitals Charity.

Runners are asked to gather at the main Roundhay Park gates on Prince’s Avenue, assembling between 6.45pm and 6.50pm, with a 7pm start time - inspired by Burrow’s iconic Leeds Rhinos jersey.

On street parking will be available to those taking part, along with numerous Roundhay Park Car Parks.

Participants of all abilities are welcome, with a variety of paces ensuring that everyone can get involved. This event is about community, remembrance, and celebrating Rob’s life. Participation in this event is voluntary, with runners taking part at their own volition and risk.

Runners are encouraged to wear their Rob Burrow Marathon tops, replica jerseys or similar attire, creating a sea of blue and amber as we take to the streets of Leeds.

For those who wish to extend their support beyond the run, donations can be made to the Burrow family support fund here.
