North Yorkshire police officer goes viral after rushing woman in labour to hospital

A police officer has gone viral - after a tweet about her experience escorting a heavily pregnant woman to hospital.

PC 870 Lou said she had stopped a car in the early hours of Monday morning (November 30) in North Yorkshire due to minor concerns for their driving.

However, when she approached the car, PC Lou realised the driver was a heavily pregnant woman.

The woman was attempting to drive herself to hospital, the officer revealed.

After stopping the car and making sure it was left in a safe place, the officer rushed the woman to the maternity ward.

The officer said her job was "not just crime!".

In a tweet, PC 870 Lou said: "Stopped a car in the early hours due to minor concerns re manner of driving.

"Very heavily pregnant and upset female in labour trying to get herself to hospital.

"Of course we made her car safe and took her to the maternity ward.

"Not just crime!"

The officer's tweet has gone viral in just a few hours on Twitter.

It has now been shared more than 2,500 times, with many applauding the officer's quick thinking.

One user said: "The stuff TV scripts are made of!"

Another added: "Brilliant stuff! I love this kind of news."

The officer later confirmed they had made it safely to the maternity ward.

Her fellow officer had "delivered lots of lambs" in the past but was not required for this incident, the officer joked.

She said: "I had 1407 with me.

"She was best qualified to help if needed.

"As she has delivered lots of lambs and calf’s, thankful her delivery skills were not required and we made it to maternity."
