Mystery solved as man rejected in marriage proposal at Trinity Leeds in front of shocked shoppers on Valentine's Day

Many shoppers spotted the man 'proposing' to a woman on the balcony of the Trinity Leeds.

However, Leeds city centre visitors were left in shock when the woman brushed aside the approach before storming away.

One bystander posted: "Just seen a man get rejected in front of everyone.

"He must be absolutely gutted!"

Another added: "Can't believe what I have just seen - a man is stood head in hands after his potential wife-to-be said no to his proposal."

The mystery of the rejection has now been solved.

@ForForkSake - an online dining community - staged the proposal, they revealed.

Hatim Jeewajee, Business development manager, said: "We are For Fork Sake: a subsidiary of Jensen and Jensen.

"With our speciality in guerrilla marketing, we orchestrated this publicity stunt to demonstrate the achievability of low budget, high impact campaigns.

"Whether bystanders were dubious of the failed proposal or lapping it up, the variety of spectator responses proved that any publicity is good publicity, even in our day and age.

"With a grand cost of only £40 we accumulated 17107 visits to our website with 3200 of these unique."
