Megan Dickinson, 24, first started experiencing problems in her Farnley home in January.

Megan, a single mum to a 5-year-old boy, told the Yorkshire Evening Post that her kitchen consistently floods with sewage due to a collapse in the pipe running from her bathroom to her garden.

She has now been left with a huge hole in the garden which fills up with water every time she or her son uses the toilet, sink or bath.

Megan said the council have been out to her home on multiple occasions but she has still not had the problem resolved.

Leeds council said an apology had 'been offered to Miss Dickinson for the time it is taking to resolve the issue'.

However, she said the council will 'not do a single thing' to help her and is at her wits end with the situation.

Megan said: "The council came out on January 20 to check my flood and where it was coming from.

"[The council worker] told me there was nothing he could do and they could come back the next day.

"The next day my kitchen was ripped out and left in that state and a hole was dug in my garden."

Megan said she was left unable to use water and was given a portaloo to use as a substitute.

She added: "We had nowhere to clean ourselves, prepare food or use a clean toilet."

Megan said the council came back to her home on January 28 to plaster the wall which had been knocked through - however another issue was found with toilet waste coming through the wall.

Two weeks ago, Megan discovered her kitchen was flooded again due to the hole between the room and her garden.

Megan said: "There’s now all sorts of mould and fungi growing under my cupboards.

"My Lino is completely ruined, it even ended up on my carpet in my room, but they told me the kitchen is completely fine and able to use even though it has been contaminated with sewage.

"I’m still fighting this battle to this date, my child has been poorly numerous times in which I believe is over this and I have been too.

"I pay full rent on my property and this is just not acceptable."

A spokesperson for Leeds City Council said: “There is an outstanding repair issue which is affecting the main drains to this property and the council is working with Yorkshire Water to resolve this.

"An apology has been offered to Miss Dickinson for the time it is taking to resolve the issue.

"Once the drainage problem is rectified, any damage caused to the property will be put right as a priority however this will need to take account of the restrictions due to the current Covid-19 situation.”
