'My dad thought he was going to die': Police probe into Heckmondwike hit and run

A man has been hospitalised at Leeds General Infirmary with serious injuries - after a hit and run in West Yorkshiresaw him break both of legs and require a skin graft.

His daughter Saffrin Mir, 27, said her dad is receiving treatment at Leeds General Infirmary for two broken legs, a broken foot and requires a skin graft.

She said: "He was shopping in Heckmondwike town centre when a car sped up, hit him and drove away.

"At this time we don't whether it was a targeted attack.

"He's broke both legs, his left foot, and will need a skin graft."

After speaking to her dad, Ms Mir shared her dad's initial reaction during the incident.

"My dad genuinely thought he was going to die.

"He asked a woman, who was helping him at the time, to hold his hand.

"I would like to thank this woman whoever she is, because she really helped him at a time when he needed it most."

Ms Mir said she is worried for her dad's health during a time when hospitals are seen as hotbeds for patients catching the deadly Covid-19 virus during the pandemic.

"Right now, he's in Leeds General but will be moved to Pinderfields, in Wakefield, next week," she said.

"I'm worried for my dad's health because he's now in a hospital during a time when coronavirus is still a major concern, and people are still dying from it.

"I feel the virus is another thing to worry about and I know I've got to be extra careful.

"If anybody saw something on Friday involving my dad's incident please come forward and contact the police."

Police said they were called around 1.30pm on July 3 to a report a man had been hit by a silver car while crossing the road at Market Place.

Police confirmed the victim was left with serious leg injuries as a result of the collision and needed hospital treatment.

The car involved did not stop at the scene.
