Lego addresses THAT furore against Old Trafford model in window of Leeds shop

Shoppers expressed their outrage and bemusement over the Lego model of Manchester United's Old Trafford stadium in the window of the toy retailer's branch in the Trinity shopping centre.

The move was branded a "joke", with people on social media slamming the decision and questioning why a tribute to a rival football club's stadium would be presented in a Leeds shop front.

But light has been shed, after staff at the store confirmed the toy set was being presented in all shop windows worldwide, and was not just for the Leeds branch.

The store's manager told the Yorkshire Evening Post: "It's a brand new set released on Thursday that's being put in all the shop windows worldwide - it's not specific to Leeds.

"It's something we're all doing, it wasn't a decision made by the staff here in Leeds."

The 3898-piece set which pays homage to Manchester's United's world famous grounds was released worldwide on Thursday to celebrate the stadiums 110th anniversary.

Lego Design Master Michael Psiaki said: “To create Old Trafford in LEGO bricks was a tremendous design challenge for the team, and we couldn’t be happier with the result.

"The 110-year-old stadium provided us with so many important locations, features and stories to tell as we constructed this model.

"We are excited for our fans to be able to experience all of that history and attention to detail as they construct and proudly display this iconic stadium.”
