Sir Tom had been taken to hospital on Sunday after being treated for pneumonia for some time and testing positive for coronavirus last week. His family praised the care he had received from the NHS and said they had been able to spend time with him in his final hours. News of his death sparked an outpouring of tributes online, including here in Leeds. Leading the city's tributes, Leeds United said: "Thank you for being a hero and an inspiration to us all. Rest in peace, Captain Sir Tom Moore", while Leeds Teaching Hospitals added: "Our thoughts are with Captain Tom's family at this sad time. His incredible fundraising has made a real difference in our hospitals, including funding health and wellbeing support for our staff. A sculpture is proudly displayed in Bexley Wing so that he will never be forgotten."
