Garry Frost was having breakfast at a cafe opposite the Sainsbury’s Local store in Middleton on Saturday, when a staff member at the supermarket walked in and handed him a letter.

The letter was a lifetime ban from all its stores, which Sainsbury’s says is due to “consistent unacceptable behaviour”.

But Garry is adamant that he has never been abusive to staff and thinks the ban has been enforced because of a parking row.

He claims a staff member has been parking in a limited one-hour parking zone for their full shift, which Sainsbury’s denies.

After raising his concerns with staff in the Middleton store, as well as Sainsbury’s head office, Garry says he had not brought up the issue for a number of weeks before his ban.

He told the Yorkshire Evening Post: “I’ve been shopping there every week for about five to six years.

“I’d like an apology for the way I’ve been treated. They walked into a cafe when I was having my breakfast and handed me the letter in front of all the customers.

“I think I should be allowed to go in the shop - not that I would. But I bear no malice to the Sainsbury’s staff.”

Sainsbury’s has reviewed Garry’s ban and it has been upheld.

A spokesperson said: “We do not tolerate abuse or threatening behaviour towards our colleagues and are in touch with Garry to explain this.”
