Leeds foodbank gets £19k for move thanks to Amey

Leeds South and East Foodbank has received a donation of more than £19,000 to help move into new premises, thanks to long-term Trussell Trust supporter Amey.

The public service provider, which is a subsidiary of Ferrovial, helped secure a £270,000 donation for the trust and 12 of its foodbanks across the UK to help it provide frontline services during the coronavirus pandemic.

The funds came from the Ferrovial Together COVID-19 fund, which has so far donated more than £6.5m to charities and organisations around the world.

Barbara Tate, Leeds South and East Foodbank trustee, said: “For some time now we have been aware that our shared warehouse was not big enough and social distancing was very difficult, so we have been searching for new premises.

“Amey’s donation will help us to move into new premises and hopefully future proof our organisation.

“In the coming months, with a return to fewer lockdown restrictions and government and council support being withdrawn, we expect to be busier than ever.

“The generous support will help us to move forward. We will continue the fight against hunger.”

Jonathan Skill, account manager at Amey, added: “I am delighted that Amey and Ferrovial have supported Leeds South and East Foodbank in such a positive and practical way.

“We have built up a strong relationship with the charity over the last few years and I am so pleased we can help them widen their support for the local community and ensure they can continue with their essential work.”
