Robin Skidmore, the chief executive of Journey Further, said he chose PhysCap after reading in the YEP how the charity had helped severely disabled Leeds girl Tilly West.

The YEP reported earlier this month how four year old Tilly, who suffers from Rett Syndrome, cannot stand upright or take a step at her home in Guiseley without the £3,500 walker bought by the 50 year old PhysCap charity.

PhysCap also bought Tilly a £2,500 specialised car seat, which enables her to be able to go on longer journeys with her family.

Tilly has Rett Syndrome, a rare genetic condition that has robbed her of use of her hands, legs, arms and voice.

The condition will get worse as Tilly gets older and her devastated parents have been told she will need lifelong 24-hour care and may die young.

She also suffers from scoliosis, which causes a curvature of the spine.

PhysCap faces an uncertain future after the majority of its fundraising events in 2020 were cancelled due to the Covid pandemic.

Mr Skidmore said: "We are one of the fortunate few who have managed to maintain the growth within our agency.

"Not everyone has had such a fortunate year and it felt like the right thing to do at Christmas, to give back to a worthwhile cause in the local community.

"We couldn't think of a better cause to support, especially now that they haven't been able to hold fundraising events this year."

Mr Skidmore said the company is matching what it is spending on its virtual Christmas party and gifts for staff with a donation to PhysCap.

PhysCap chairman Daniel Gray, said: "We are so grateful to have the support of companies such as Journey Further and we cannot thank them enough for their heartfelt generosity.

"PhysCap relies on corporate donations and we are humbled to have so many wonderful partners out there across the Yorkshire region.

"The more donations we receive, the more support we can give back to families who really do need our help as we are their last resort, when other doors have been closed on them.

"In such challenging times, we are inundated with requests for financial help and without such fantastic people like Robin & his team, we would struggle badly, considering we cannot do events during these Covid times."
