"Surreal prospect": Leeds-born drummer of Sports Team looks ahead to huge Live at Leeds homecoming show

Al Greenwood is the drummer for the band who have had huge success since the June 2020 release of their album Deep Down Happy - which reached number 2 on the UK charts.

The band - based in London - consists of lead vocalist Alex Rice, rhythm guitarist and vocalist Rob Knaggs, lead guitarist Henry Young, bassist Oli Dewdney, drummer Al Greenwood, and keyboardist Ben Mack.

Al formed the band at Cambridge University.

Sports Team are set to support headliners Frank Carter and the Rattlesnakes and are among a host of huge bands due to play at the festival this year.

Live At Leeds is an award winning metropolitan festival held annually in Leeds

In 2021 it will be held on Saturday October 16.

The festival - which started in 2007 - takes place across the city’s most popular venues and spaces.

More than 10,000 music fans are expected to attend this year - over 20 stages and 200 artists.

Speaking to the YEP, Al said to be playing "so high up the bill this year" at the festival is a "surreal prospect" for Sports Team.

She reminisced on teenage days attending the festival - "meeting at Hyde Park" before cramming into any of the venues they could get in across Leeds.

Al told the YEP: "Some of the best memories from teenage years were of scrambling around Leeds on what seemed an always sunny Live at Leeds day.

"We would stop in Hyde Park for a quick regroup early evening and then cram ourselves into every venue and pit we could.

"The secret set Good Shoes played at the Brudenell was one of the most euphoric gig experiences I've had to date.

"To be playing so high up the bill this year is a surreal prospect of a home-coming show."
