Hundreds to spend night on Headingley Stadium terraces for Leeds Big Sleep 10th anniversary

Leeds Big Sleep returns to Headingley Stadium this week for its 10th anniversary

Hundreds of people are set to brave the cold on Headingley Stadium's terraces to raise awareness of homelessness and funds for vulnerable people across Leeds.

The Leeds Big Sleep is celebrating a major milestone as it returns to Headingley for its 10th anniversary this Thursday (October 29), with organisers expecting the biggest turnout in the event's history.

The annual event, organised by St George's Crypt and Leeds Rhinos Foundation, challenges people to leave the comfort of their beds for one night to raise awareness of homelessness and support the two charities working with vulnerable people in the city.

A spokesperson for St George's Crypt said: "At St George's Crypt, we see every day the difference that a safe place, a warm meal and the right support can make to someone's life.

“The Leeds Big Sleep is about much more than spending one night outdoors. It's about standing alongside people who face these challenges every day and helping us continue to provide support when it is needed most.”

Since its launch a decade ago, the Leeds Big Sleep has raised more than £330,000 for the two organisations.

This year's event is set to be the largest yet, according to organisers, with local businesses, community groups, volunteers, supporters and members of the Leeds Rhinos family coming together at Headingley Stadium.

A spokesperson added: "Reaching the 10th Leeds Big Sleep is a fantastic milestone, and seeing the event grow into its biggest yet shows just how much the people of Leeds care about those facing homelessness and hardship.

"We are incredibly grateful to everyone taking part and to Leeds Rhinos Foundation for their continued partnership."
