John Shires and Gaynor Barnes present final ITV Calendar show after more than 30 years on air
John Shires and Gaynor Barnes have presented their final ITV Calendar show after more than 30 years on air.
Broadcasting live from ITV Yorkshire's Leeds studios, in Kirkstall Road, on Friday, March 26, the pair thanked viewers for watching.
During the programme, Gaynor said: "It's been fantastic, I don't think either of us can believe that we are leaving after all this time.
"We've had so many messages from viewers and we have been incredibly touched by your kind words."
Also during the show, John finally revealed the team that he supports is Huddersfield Town - not Leeds United.
John joined Yorkshire Television in 1989 and Gaynor joined in 1991.
The final programme featured apperances from many guests that had appeared on the show over the years.
Speaking to John, former Leeds player Chris Kamara said: "Well done mate! A career in television, who would have thought it!
"Working for Yorkshire television for all those years, I remember you back in my Leeds days, my Bradford days - you have been absolutely superb, enjoy your retirement you deserve it."
Witer and director, Kay Mellor, said to Gaynor: "I can't believe that you are leaving and I won't see you on my screen anymore.
"You have done a fantastic job and I know that you are going on to other things, maybe even better things. Wishing you loads and loads of luck, love you lots!"
Earlier that day, presenter Christine Talbot shared an old image of her and Gaynor, saying it would be an "emotional day".
Christine said: "It’s going to be an emotional day as we say goodbye to these two legends, my dear friends Gaynor and John after more than 30 years.
"Brilliant presenters and also lovely people."
