Choosing who should receive one of our Christmas Honours is never an easy task when we have the privilege of telling our readers about inspiring individuals from all walks of life every day - from children taking on charity challenges and community volunteers raising spirits, to campaigners striving to make our city a better place and sports stars inspiring others both on and off the field.
Today we name the 12 individuals and groups receiving the YEP's 2020 Christmas Honours as we thank them for all that they have done to make a difference to the lives of others:
7. Marvina Newton
The founder of the Black Lives Matter movement in Leeds spoke of the 'horrifying' abuse she has faced while working as an activist over the last decade
8. Charlotte and Sheree Smith
A Leeds park was transformed into a magical land of fairies thanks to the creative efforts of one family
9. Lilyana Myers
The kind-hearted six-year-old Leeds girl and her friends have helped deliver more than 30 Christmas gift filled hampers to Leeds Children's Hospital
10. Sam Peters-Esterine
Sam Peters-Esterine has been uniting her neighbours during the Covid-19 lockdown by holding regular exercise classes in her street
11. Rob Burrow and Kevin Sinfield
For not only raising awareness of MND and vital funds towards research, but also reminding us all about the power of friendship.
12. All our key workers
Our final honour goes to a group who have often been taken for granted. They are the city's key workers who have overcome countless challenges created by the pandemic and been on the frontline throughout this crisis, helping to hold the city together. We thank you all.
