A member of the public was shocked after spotting the animal soaking up some rays on the roof of a house in Cross Flatts Grove in Beeston on Thursday, July 16.

She called the RSPCA who went to collect the reptile.

RSPCA inspector Paula Clemence said: “It’s not out of the ordinary to see pigeons, squirrels and cats soaking up the sunshine on a warm day, but you don’t expect to look out of your window and see an iguana chilling on a roof.

“Exotic pets like snakes and lizards enjoy the sunshine and the warm weather, and we are often called out to collect escaped or stray reptiles over the summer months.

"They can be talented escape artists and become much more active during the warm weather and may have more opportunities to escape.

“That’s why we always urge people to ensure their enclosures are secure and locked to prevent accidental escape.”

Paula took the iguana to a local specialist for care.

The RSPCA are now hoping to trace the owner of the iguana.

If anyone recognises him then contact the RSPCA appeal line on 0300 123 8018.
