Shaun Jenkinson posted a picture of the house in Sherburn-in-Elmet on October 10.

The house is covered in brightly coloured lights in the shape of Santa Claus, Christmas trees and candy canes.

He wrote: "Just on my way home after my night shift...l suppose Christmas is not that far away."

The post started a debate on Leedsplace about the right time to put up decorations.

Some felt that more than two months before the big day was too far, while others felt we all needed a bit of festive cheer after a tough 2020 all round.

Rose Barlow simply said: "Oh my god way to early."

But Rebecca Farmborough said: "Love it! After the year we all had everyone should do what makes them happy. If others don’t like just don’t look."

Deborah Morgan agreed.

She said: "Well I don't think it matters this year why not? Some may not be even around at Christmas with this terrible disease I say each to their own and do what makes you happy and a bit of joy for people."

Jackie Preval was in two minds.

She said: "Oh no that's too early! But I suppose after this year's problems a bit of good cheer."

While Cath Miller said: "Too early for Christmas decorations."

Leedsplace admin Paula Anne Brown said: This is a good idea. We could brighten up Leeds for the winter."

Paula Griffiths seemed to sum up the majority of the comments.

She said: "I honestly believe this year has been horrendous .. if this makes someone happy I’m happy for them .. I can’t wait for this year to be over .. seeing this will make people smile or laugh or be happy and the odd few will have a moan .. Good for them."

It seems the owners of the Sherburn house may well have inspired others to do the same.

Lindsey Baird-Waugh joked: "WHAT?!?! I’m not the first one. I’m jealous."
