Four NHS workers in Leeds named Queen’s Nurse at awards ceremony

Louise Elwen, Fiona Louth and Sharon Underwood work within children’s healthcare services in Leeds and between them they have more than 135 years of nursing experience in areas such as school nursing, health visiting and working with children who have complex additional needs.

The fourth nurse, Nikki Stubbs, has been a District Nurse in adult services for a number of years and is currently working in a senior leadership role.

They join the three Queen’s Nurses already employed by the trust.

The title was awarded in recognition of their outstanding commitment to providing high quality care to the patients of Leeds in an increasingly challenging climate.

Ms Underwood said: “I work with families in Leeds who have pre-school children with complex disabilities because I want to ensure they have access to the highest quality of care and support which meets their individual needs.

“Becoming a Queen’s Nurse will enable me to raise the profile of the families I work with by giving them a voice within an arena dedicated to innovation and high quality care.”

Steph Lawrence, executive director of nursing and allied health professionals at Leeds Community Healthcare and fellow Queen’s Nurse, said: “This is a reflection of the exceptional level of care and dedication our nurses provide to the population of Leeds every day.”

The ceremony took place at The Royal Garden Hotel in Kensington, London on June 21.
