One thing I love is experimenting with food, creating unusual combinations which you’d never think work.

On my honeymoon I discovered lemon curd on cheese which is a delight. During a Sunday dinner I tried custard on mashed potato which is sweet and deliciously creamy, it’s one of the best combos going.

At first, my wife didn’t want to cook for me because I’m a food reviewer. Until she learned I get just as excited about a turkey dinosaur volcano as I do posh nosh.

I loved the Chinese food in Scotland for example, which included a side of salt and pepper smiley faces because I’m a big kid at heart.

I love trying unusual combinations during my reviews. One thing I have eaten recently which I’ve been having dreams about ever since, is space green mushy peas on top of a kebab.

To be honest there’s not much mushy peas can't be paired with. I’ve had mushy pea fritters and Hull patties which are commonplace in East Yorkshire.

If you want a stodgy but beautiful combo, try a Hull pattie which is made up of potatoes and herbs with chips, battered fish and a side of mushy peas. Or for a carb fest, add a butty too.

More than anything when it comes to carbs I’m a bread man, if health wasn’t an issue I’d happily polish off a tiger loaf, block of cheese and Lurpak everyday.

I’d never tried a Full English breakfast inside a loaf before until I reviewed the Greasy Pig in Leeds.

This place is a student haven in Headingley. I of course had to try the Full English in a loaf called the Paralyser. By ‘eck did it taste good. They’d scooped out most of the soft insides and replaced it with chopped tomatoes, bacon, sausages, eggs, mushrooms and hashbrowns. I poured my baked beans all over it. Delicious.

I was persuaded by the breakfast wraps I had in York. They are called “baby’s legs” because of the size of them. Big Bite serves up these wraps jam packed with a full English inside.

The food pairing which didn’t float my boat was when my toast was swapped with oatcakes with my Full English for my review with Strong man Eddie Hall. Flat pancake-like oatcakes are a Stoke speciality.

I’ve also enjoyed a full English breakfast inside a Yorkshire Pudding wrap which is becoming more common.

I was a little less enthusiastic however about trying fake bacon on a breakfast at Hyde Park Book Club but I was surprised. That vegetarian breakfast changed my opinion on veggie grub. It was a bit of alright that. I love my meat, but the flavour of the ‘facon’ might have been even more flavoursome. Although facon generally can look like dog chews

Another alternative to bacon I’ve tried for breakfast is spam. Yes spam is a cost effective way of scranning meat but some people genuinely love it while others not so much.

I never thought I’d have spam on my breakfast plate and I definitely didn’t foresee eating spam for breakfast on a bus.  That’s what happened though when I went to review the famous Red bus Cafe on A64. The spam was bang on.

Sometimes I’ll order an unusual array of dishes on my reviews too to give a fair view on what places serve. I do like a selection too as long as I have a bottle of water to wet my whistle in between.

A recent favourite was Il Forno Bakery, Pizza & Pasta, on Bellhouse Road, in Firth Park, Sheffield which not only has Italian food but daily specials of Indian, Chinese and many more cuisines.

I ordered the lasagne, the sweet chilli chicken and the chicken tikka with pilau rice, along with one of their enormous chocolate eclairs, which came to £19.20 including my bottle of water.

Great value for money. The chicken tikka was absolutely delicious, the sweet chilli chicken was cooked to perfection and that eclair was gorgeous.

To be honest I only eat a little bit to try the takeaway and I rarely take anything home but I ended up ordering another lasagne to take home because it was better than restaurant quality.
