Home Bargains give staff a break on Boxing Day

For the second year in a row, Home Bargains has decided to remain shut on Boxing Day in the hope of giving staff a break - and much-deserved time with their loved ones.

The decision to close on Boxing Day was highly praised by both shoppers and staff when they shut their doors last year, with the chain store deciding to do so again this year.

This extra day off isn’t taken out of employee’s holiday allowance, which means the 22,000 employees will still get paid.

In a post on both Twitter and Instagram, Home Bargains said: “To all our staff: Thank you for all your hard work once again this year.

All our stores will be closed on Boxing Day to ensure you are able to spend time with your friends and family.”

In a paragraph dedicated to customers, the store said: “Thank you for your understanding and support.”

Customers also took to Twitter to comment on the store’s decision, with one shopper commenting: “Home Bargains is one of the biggest retailers in the UK and they’ve closed Boxing Day this year.

“Good on them I say. Yeah you could say Boxing Day is ‘just another day’ but stops you enjoying Christmas night.”

Another customer tweeted: “Nice to see Home Bargains taking the lead and closing their stores on Boxing Day to give their staff time off. Well done to them for thinking of their staff.”

Home Bargains stores will remain open on Christmas Eve, before closing for Christmas Day and Boxing Day, and reopening on December 27.
