The youngster emailed Boris Johnson’s office in April and after still not getting a proper response, she has taken matters into her own hands.

Esther hoped her petition would get around 100 signatures when it was started three weeks ago – but it has already garnered more than 2,400 already.

It’s fantastic to see the next generation taking charge of the debate and showing an interest in issues beyond their own doorsteps.

The Government must sit up and listen to this generation because young people, like Esther, will be making their mark at the ballot box in a few years time – and they will be unlikely to forget inaction.
