Why putting trust in teachers will avoid 'disaster' of 2020 exam results - the YEP says

For the best part of a year, pupils across the city have faced disruption to their education.

In the face of such uncertainty our students have shown incredible resilience to this once-in-a-generation crisis.

For many, it will come as a huge sense of relief that the Government will be placing its trust in their teachers when it comes to grading GCSE and A-Level results this year.

They won’t have to endure the turmoil so many faced in 2020.

The dreaded algorithm has been thrown onto the scrap heap where it quite rightly belongs to avoid the “disaster” that was the grading crisis last year.

This new approach relies on trust, integrity and instilling confidence on those who know their pupils best.

But it is also important that we recognise the fortitude shown by students in the face of adversity.

No textbook could have prepared them for the emotional toll the last year would take on them.

And now we must look to the future as these youngsters will be our leaders of tomorrow.
