Why Leeds must applaud groups working with young people over mental health

It is no secret that the coronavirus pandemic, and the ensuing lockdowns, have seen many of us spending more time at home than ever before.

But for some, being confined to their households during lockdown has left them trapped in a volatile environment with issues ranging from drug abuse to domestic violence.

And the effect that this can have on the mental health and wellbeing of young people in Leeds is brought into sharp focus by groups like the Beck Project.

The project works with young people aged four to 18 in Leeds primary and secondary schools, supporting them with their emotional and mental health by providing counselling, advice and family mediation.

Groups like the Beck Project, a lifeline to young people, should be commended and their work held aloft as an example to others.
