We can't afford to fail our city's children - the YEP says

Today we report on a letter to the Education Secretary, penned by Labour and Conservative figures in Leeds, urging the Government to re-think its strategy on school exams.

The current transmission rates of Covid-19 in Leeds are “above the national average” and, as a result, pupils are missing in-school learning while they have to isolate at home.

Coupled with the challenges of trying to get access to laptops or the space to help with their work while being away from the classrooms, the odds are stacking up against some of our most disadvantaged children.

Education chiefs worry that this perfect storm has left teachers “exhausted” and many poorer pupils even more disadvantaged.

This newspaper has said time and again, we can’t afford to fail our city’s children.
