United Leeds: The powerful stories behind the communities shaping a stronger, more connected city
Leeds is a city that's stronger together.
And today we launch a new series shining the spotlight on the real story of the people who built this city to make it what it is today.

In a time where the seeds of uncertainty and division are easily sown, the Yorkshire Evening Post is looking at the issues impacting communities across Leeds and what the city means to them.
Our United Leeds series turns the lens on the thriving individual communities who call this city home as well as the challenges they’ve faced.
For some it is a place of sanctuary away from war, poverty and persecution. It is a safe haven.
For others it is simply home - and it is where there heart truly belongs.
Just look at the Irish community featured in today’s YEP. Leeds would not be what it is today without their hard work and dedication.
As Sheron Boyle from the Irish Centre says there isn’t a part of the city built today that hasn’t been touched by Irish hands.
And it is clear that the beating heart of the community is right there in the Centre which brings generations together and celebrates the rich heritage and stories that follow.
Our new series is a celebration of identity - and that means recognising stories, people and their communities as essential threads in our shared fabric which creates a rich tapestry of life in Leeds.
And over the coming weeks we will be sharing those stories and legacies that make Leeds such a diverse and unique city to live in.
Leeds is a city that thrives on resilience and determination. It rallies in times of need as communities stand shoulder to shoulder to support one another in the face of adversity.
And it unites in powerful celebration throughout the year - the Leeds West Indian Carnival is a brilliant example of the pride of heritage in bringing communities together.
This is Leeds' super power: its strength comes from a place of understanding how each community forms part of our complex jigsaw.
We are stronger together - and a United Leeds moves forward together, shaped by every voice within it.
